For years, one of our community members, Scott Harrison has helped his mother make cannabis gummies. As her son, Scott holds the caregiver’s card for his 81-year-old mother with Alzheimer’s Judy Markowitz, who is pictured with our stylish cannabis sweatshirt, and two trays of her most effective medicine. Cannabis gummies! To date, Judy has eaten over 1,000 gummies and states they work like charm.
We asked Scott for the recipe and he was kind enough to share with our community, so here it is!
The cannabis gummies recipe makes around 50 gummies – final # depends on how clean you scrape the mixture pan into the squeeze bottle and how clean you pour the mixture into the molds.
THC mg % of your gummies depends on the amount and potency of the dispensary-bought oil.
Requires 2 stove burners to use at the same time.
1 TBSP Sunflower lecithin granules
(1) 3oz box Jell-O gelatin (flavor of your choice)
7 TBSP sugar
3/4 TSP Knox brand unflavored Gelatin
1/4C Coconut oil organic refined for medium-high heat
Cannabis oil syringes (I use 4/batch to end up with gummies in the %50s mg THC)
(1) Stainless steel quart-size double boiler
(1) Spatula rubber
(2) Whisks small
(1) Stainless steel small saucepan
Silicone gummy molds 2.5cc size. Bought on Amazon. 1 box contains (2) 28-space molds. ONLY use 2.5cc size molds!

(2) 1/4 cup measure
(1) Tablespoon measure
(1) 6-oz Wilton-brand candy making squeeze bottle
(1) Funnel small plastic or stainless steel
1) Measure 1 tablespoon Soy Lecithin Powder, set aside until step 2A
2) In a medium stainless steel saucepan, no heat, dry mix (1) 3oz box flavored Jell-O and 3/4 TSP Knox brand unflavored gelatin
STEP I: Melt Coconut Oil:
Place quart-size double boiler, with the bottom part, filled partially with tap water, over medium-low heat. Add 1/4 cup coconut oil (I always add a little more than 1/4 cup just to make sure I end up with 1/4 after what may stick to the side of the boiler). Completely melt and pour 1/4 of the coconut oil into measuring cup, set aside until step 2. Use a spatula to wipe out double boiler and discard extra oil into the garbage – I never pour raw oil into my sink drain.
STEP-II: Prepare Oil
Place double boiler back on low heat. Pour in pre-measured 1/4 cup coconut oil, pre-measured 1 TBSP sunflower lecithin and syringes of cannabis oil (how many and of what potency determines the THC mg # for each gummy). Gently mix with a whisk until the lecithin granules are completely dissolved – around 12 mins.
When granules in STEP II are about 90% dissolved, begin:
STEP III: Prepare Gelatin:
Add 1/4 cup water to your pre-mixed Jello and Knox. Turn on low heat. Gently whisk until powders are dissolved and the mixture gets hot. Turn the heat up slightly to Medium-Low for a short time if necessary to get mixture nice and hot, but not boiling.
When both the oil is ready and gelatin hot, turn the heat OFF on Jello/Knox.
Carefully pour water out of oil boiler bottom and set aside bottom half – you are now done with that piece of hardware. Move Jello/Knox to oil double-boiler LOW heat.
Slow drip pour oil into gelatin while whisking. Use a rubber spatula to get all the oil out of the double boiler and into the Jello/Knox. You are now done with the double boiler.
STEP IV: Add Sugar to Mask Strong Cannabis Taste
Heat still on LOW, gently whisk stir oil/jello/know mixture while slowly adding into 7 TBSP raw sugar. Stop mixing when sugar is completely added and dissolved. The mixture will thicken.
STEP V: Filling Molds:
I continue to experiment with many kitchen cups, measures and containers – anything that most cleanly transfers the ready gummy mixture from stove cooking pan into mold spaces. So far, this has been the best way for me:
Put the small funnel in 6-oz Wilton plastic squeeze bottle and carefully pour gelatin mixture into funnel and bottle. Carefully or with someone’s help, use spatula to scrape bowl and get as much of the gummy mixture into the funnel and into the squeeze bottle. 3/4 of the bottle will fill. Cap bottle. I wear a glove to handle the hot squeeze bottle.
Before pouring, I put each of the silicone mold trays in a Rubbermaid freezer container. I do this so there is no reason to move the molds after pouring in the gelatin mixture, avoiding spillage.
Carefully and slowly pour the mixture from a squeeze bottle into silicone mold trays, going slow to fill each individual bear mold space to the top and pausing briefly between cavities to move to the next one without spillage.
Snap-tight container lids and put them in the freezer.
After up to 24 hours, remove Rubbermaid containers from the freezer, remove gummy molds, push out gummies from the back. Lightly dust gummies with powdered sugar to further improve taste and prevent gummies from sticking together.
Store in an airtight container (jar) in the refrigerator until ready to eat.
Your end result, should be a tray of medicine and happiness.
